This is officially my first post written on New Jersey grounds. As you all know, yesterday was D-Day. Typically me, I still had to pack my bags Sunday evening. You can already imagine how much I slept that night.. Monday morning, we got up at 4AM. Luckily, all the snow was gone, so we didn’t have any problems on the way to Brussels Airport. I met my friends Laurens and Elke at the Check in, and we said goodbye to our parents. It has to be said : all mothers were very brave. (God knows how much they cried in each other’s arms when we passed the control office.)
The first flight was to Munich, at 9.20AM, so we had some time to visit the shops and have breakfast. It was a very short flight, so before we realised it, we already landed in Munich. There we had to wait until 3.20 PM to board to our other flight. We had all the time in the world to eat something, stroll around in the terminal,.. Do you know they even have a brewery there? it is located between terminal 1 and 2, and the only brewery in the world that is located in an airport. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any time to visit it. we did have lunch in one of the ‘Brauhaus’es in Terminal 2.
When we arrived at our check in gate, the plane was already there. For all plane details : go take a look at Laurens’ blog! Just like the first flight, it was hosted by Lufthansa. If I may say so : the best flight I ever experienced! We had awesome seats, with tv-touchscreens that we could conjure up from under them, another screen in front of us, and lots and lots of leg-space. The hostesses were very nice, but were getting a little bit confused whether they had to speak English or German with us, because we did both. Another funny thing was that they didn’t offer us alcoholic beverages, even though we weren’t in the States yet. Not that I wanted any, but it was just striking. we flew over France, Ireland, Canada.. It took us 9 hours to get there. The first hours I was excited, watched some movies, but the last three hours were really frustrated. I got bored
At our arrival in Newark, we had to pass visa control and customs control. Luckily, everything went fairly easy there. Once passed, we met up with Martine, who brought us to our new home. Too bad it was already after 8PM, we didn’t see a lot of the neighbourhood.. She gave us the tour of the house, and after a bit to eat and drink we went straight to bed, exhausted! Martine let us sleep as long as we wanted this morning, so we would be able to get rid of our jetlag.
Today, we woke up at 10AM, unpacked, showered, had breakfast and did a little stroll in the neighbourhood. As you can see here and here, it is very calm here. I already saw at least 20 squirrels, and birds I had never seen before. I think I’m going to like it here!
